Stricly limited numbers, arrive early to avoid disappointment.
Seeking food for thought in your lunch hour? Join us for the latest free, informal discussion at the Gallery, open to all, presented in partnership with Philosophy at the University of Southampton. To coincide with our latest exhibition, Quarantania, based around social rituals and individual and group dynamics, join us for a debate to examine our freedoms within today’s society.
Subjectively we view ourselves as in control of most of our actions, and we think that other people are largely responsible for theirs. But objectively we can see that what we do is caused by many events and circumstances stretching back into the past, which has suggested to some people that free will is an illusion.
Which view should win out? Or is there no real conflict between them?
This talk will be held in the gallery’s Education Room with strictly limited numbers. Places are available on a first come, first served basis. Arrive early to avoid disappointment.
