The University’s procurement department has introduced a new web based system to allow staff to easily find new homes for equipment and furniture they no longer need. WARP-it is a mixture of eBay and Freecycle and allows staff to upload items for reuse elsewhere within the University. You can use WARP-it to find new homes for lots of items, such as desks, chairs, filing cabinets, and lever arch files.
Since its introduction in February, the number of staff using the system has grown and to date staff have saved:
- £5,000;
- 828 kg of waste; and
- 3.5 tonnes of carbon
The system is working well and you can find out more by visiting: http://southampton.likn.co/finance/procurement/index.html or contacting Sarah Berry, Procurement Administrator ([email protected]; 22654).
The more staff that use the system the greater the savings and the less waste we will send to landfill or recycling.
