The Study China Programme is a three-week, residential government-funded study programme aimed at giving UK students more international mobility experience and increasing their knowledge and understanding of Chinese language and culture. The programme is open to UK and EU/EAA students, not including those on Erasmus programmes in the UK.
Applications for the 2012 summer programme are now open and will close on 17 June 2012, visit www.studychina.org.uk.
There have been three important changes since the previous programme.
Firstly, the government sponsors have agreed that we can widen the eligibility criteria so we can now accept gap year, MA and PhD students in addition to undergraduates that we already accept.
Secondly, the summer programme returns to a three-week duration and includes accredited Chinese language courses (40 hours, 2 credits) and one academic course (18 hours, 1 credit) as well as cultural classes, family visits, social occasions and trips to areas of cultural significance.
Thirdly, participants will have the option (at their own expense, not as part of the funded programme) to extend their time in China by taking up an internship programme with one of our recommended organisations, for a duration of one to six months. Intern companies cover a wide range of industry sectors from architecture, IT & telecommunications, engineering, outsourcing, marketing and PR. In this way, you get insight how companies work in China and develop long term business contacts there. This is particularly relevant to final year and master students who are graduating this summer.
