We interviewed Adam Procter at WSA in advance of the upcoming Degree Show.
What’s your role in organising the Degree Show?
Along with being a Senior Teaching Fellow in Digital Media at WSA, I also manage the WSA Technical Services team (around 20 staff members), equipment and workshop resources at WSA. As all the studio based courses take part in the BA show the guys, girls and equipment from my team play a large role in the setup of the show. So for a couple of months I am bestowed with the grand role of Degree Show Coordinator, this involves ensuring that there is co-ordination across the entire school with regards conversion of spaces and support for all kinds of activities such as producing publications, creating and design display systems, online activities and organising ordering of materials like white paint – this year we purchased 1,675 litres – all within a strict budget. I work closely with my deputy Andy Brook and between us we have over 30 years of Degree Show Experience. We oversee all the project proposals and risk assessments required for the set up and show itself, along with liaising internally with the faculty and estates and numerous external relationships. In essence I ask very nicely a lot of hard working individuals to convert almost all of our teaching spaces into exhibition spaces.
