The Royal Mail has decided that mail they deliver to our doors on a day-to-day basis should be acknowledged as such. This includes all mail they deliver on behalf of other mail companies through a system known as ‘downstream access’ (this system allows other mail companies to collect, process and present UK mail to the Royal Mail for posting of the ‘final mile’). As a result of this change Royal Mail will show they have delivered mail by placing an impression on all mail they deliver stating ‘delivered by Royal Mail’
The only affect this will have on mail we produce and present to Royal Mail is in regard to Printed Posted Impression (PPI) bulk mail postings, which some departments present to the University post room. As a result of this we are ordering new updated hand stamps which bear the PPI logo in its upcoming format. These hand stamps will be available to loan out from the post room in the same way as the previous version was. You can also continue to download an impression from the Royal Mail website via www.royalmail.com/produce-ppi. You will need to ensure you add the University’s own PPI code which is ‘Southampton 20’ to the impression you create.
This change of impression will begin to occur from 23rd June 2012. However, Royal Mail has said they will continue to process any old versions of the PPI until 2nd January 2013 to allow businesses to make the transition.
