Dear Colleagues
Earlier this week Professor Debra Humphris informed me of her intention to accept an offer from Imperial College, London to become their new Pro-Rector of Education. I have now accepted Debra’s resignation, but we have agreed that she will remain with us at Southampton until we have completed our Institutional Review in October 2012.
Debra took up her role of Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education in September 2008. In that time she has brought a passion and dedication that is transforming education at the University. Debra has ensured that our strategy places students at the heart of the University, and that we offer distinctive, flexible, research-led education. Debra has also played a key role as an ambassador and advocate of the University in a variety of arenas from international conferences and national media to government policy committees and local schools and colleges.
I’m extremely grateful to Debra for all her hard work in helping our University meet the unprecedented demands that are being made of higher education at present, and especially pleased that she will be with us through the current institutional review. I am delighted for Debra personally, and I hope you’ll join me in congratulating Debra and wishing her every success in her new role.
With kind regards
Don Nutbeam
