On September 13 and 14, the University will be hosting the annual RAISE conference on student engagement. The presentations, seminars and workshops will all take place at our Highfield campus.
The conference is designed to present contemporary research and education practice in the field of engaging all students with their experience at university. The aim is that by sharing research and developing a shared understanding of the topic, universities can systematically engage students and increase the benefits to all. RAISE stands for Researching, Advancing and Inspiring Student Engagement, was set up in 2010 and now has over 250 members who are staff and students in universities around the world.
Several of the speakers will be University colleagues. Topics covered during the two days include curriculum design, mentoring, student-led approaches and partnership between staff and students. The key note speakers are Gwen van der Velden, Director of Learning and Teaching Enhancement at the University of Bath and Dr Ian Solomonides, Director of the Learning and Teaching at Macquarie University in Sydney. Delegates will be welcomed by Tessa Harrison, our University Registrar.
Julie Wintrup, Principal Teaching Fellow in Health Sciences and a member of the RAISE network, said, “We are very pleased to be hosting this year’s conference. The network was set up to share good practice and research, create collaborative projects and improve student engagement. Getting together at a conference is a great way to celebrate all that goes on and all that we can do.”
Registration for the conference is now open. Entry is free to student presenters. Find out more at http://raise-network.ning.com/page/conference-2012
