Winchester School of Art (WSA) welcomed the Olympic Torch Relay team on Wednesday (11th July) before the Olympic flame made its way around the city.
The School was chosen by LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) to be the base for torchbearers, relay staff and partners.
The 15 torchbearers congregated in The Gallery before being taken to their starting points along the relay route.
Kay May, who is based at the School, comments: “It’s been an extremely exciting day for everyone at WSA and we are honoured to welcome the Olympic flame and all the runners. We were chosen because we are a vital part of Winchester’s cultural life and it is wonderful to have a small part of such a historic event.”
The Olympic flame was passed between torchbearers around the city and was carried by Park Avenue where WSA is situated.
