Students involved with the Southampton Blackout at the end of April have published an infographic to highlight the results of the exercise, including the best performing buildings.
More than 250 student and staff volunteers took part in the Blackout, which involved auditing buildings on the Highfield Campus and turning off office and computer equipment that had been unnecessarily left on before the weekend.
The results highlight the huge environmental and financial impact we can all have with just a few, small and simple acts – like turning off computers at the end of the day.
(The building-by-building results are based on the number of computers left on unnecessarily, and they exclude those people who opted out of the exercise in advance.)
The infographic includes a quick checklist of things to consider at the end of each day – but particularly before your summer leave.
A new switch-off and power management policy has also been published, which includes information about how long it should take your computer to load up in the morning. If you leave your computer on overnight because it takes more than four minutes to load up in the morning, we’d encourage you to contact ServiceLine so that this can be resolved and your machine can be switched off at the end of the day.
