The Winchester Centre for Global Futures in Art Design & Media at the Winchester School of Art presents the Global Futures Film Forum starting this Autumn.
Screened in conjunction with the Winchester Discovery Centre, the Forum will show films that address issues highlighting the complexities of a globalized world. The series emphasises the role of films as catalysts for change. The Forum aims to be a venue where diverse voices with stakes in these issues can come together and debate. We want to especially address community groups that are engaged in issues of globalization, as well as the Winchester community at large.
The films showcased deal with globally relevant topics such as environment, society, politics and art. The forum will deal with politically urgent issues, socially oppressed communities, important environmental disasters and artistic taboos.
The Forum opens with the film ‘Dirty Oil’ (2010) by director Leslie Iwerks on Wednesday, 26 September, at 7.30pm. The local environmentalist group WinAcc will facilitate a debate after the film. All are welcome to attend. The films will be shown at the Winchester Discovery Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8SB.
