We’re delighted to welcome the appointment of Professor Graham Reed who is acknowledged as a pioneer in silicon photonics and the initiator of the research field in the UK.
Graham and his team have moved the group’s base to the University, where they will be using many of the excellent state-of-the-art facilities on offer in the new Mountbatten Institute.
“We are delighted to be based at the University of Southampton and particularly within the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) – a photonics beacon within the UK. We are particularly looking forward to using the new fabrication facilities in the clean room complex, as well as the superb photonics laboratories,” said Graham.
“Our work will also complement the silicon work that was already being carried out by the Nano group in Electronics and Computer Science (ECS).
“We knew there were so many world-class researchers in the ORC and ECS in Southampton but there are even more excellent people and equipment here than we expected. The atmosphere is so positive and there is an air of expectation and success. It is great to be part of such an environment.
“As a group we are excited about the prospect of doing even more good work than we have done before and working with our new colleagues to engage in a wider array of projects.
Graham is regularly invited to contribute to major silicon photonics conferences around the world. He has served on and chaired numerous international conference committees and published more than 250 papers in the field of silicon photonics.
