The first speakers in a new series of talks presented by the Winchester Centre for Global Futures in Art Design & Media at the Winchester School of Art have been announced.
Kristoffer Gansing is the Artistic Director of Transmediale 2012, will open the Global Futures Speaker Series on Wednesday, 3 October. Gansing co-founded The Art of the Overhead, a pioneering project of media-archaeological art practice. He is interested in the interfaces of media culture, art and everyday life. His research interests include the contrasting parallel worlds and conflicts of network culture and the distribution of media technology.
Later in the month, on 22 October, the featured speaker will be Italian art expert Francesco Manacorda. Appoined in April of this year as the new artistic director of Tate Liverpool, Manacorda was previously director of Artissima, Turin’s international art fair. He has previously been curator at London’s Barbican Art Gallery and is a visiting lecturer at the city’s Royal College of Art.
Future speakers in the series include Rod Cousens, one of the UK’s leading games industry executives; Professor David Gauntlett, Director of the Communications and Media Research Institute, University of Westminster; and Scott Klein, Chair of the English department at Wake Forest University in North Caroline, USA and specialist in Modernism and the 20th century English novel.
All speakers in the series will begin at 5.00pm in the Graphics Building, Floor 3, at the Winchester School of Art, Park Avenue, Winchester. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
