The University of Southampton celebrates a memorable double anniversary in 2012. In addition to the 60th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter that established the University, it is also 150 years since the opening of the original Hartley Institution, from which the University developed.
To mark the occasion, staff and students are invited to a special free lunchtime concert at the Turner Sims on Monday 15 October at 1pm. All are welcome. No tickets are required.
We are delighted that the Royal Marines Association Concert Band will be our guests at this special event. Exactly 150 years ago, the Band of the Royal Marines played at the Hartley Institution’s grand opening ceremony on 15 October 1862.
The 45-strong band will be playing a specially chosen programme of music for the occasion, and for concertgoers arriving early, tea and cake will be served from 12.15pm in the Turner Sims foyer.
The concert ends at 1.50pm.
