This lecture will launch the Global South Seminar Series. It will explore the relevance of development in the global South in the twenty-first century, touching on issues such as the Millennium Development Goals, global health, and some of the challenges that are faced in achieving these goals.
The Global South Forum (GSF) established in July 2012 by doctoral researchers is an interdisciplinary network of researchers whose projects touch on issues facing the Global South that is Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middles East. The work of the network is organized under the following six themes:
1. Millennium Development Goals (poverty, universal education, gender equality, child health, maternal health, HIV/AIDS, environmental sustainability, global partnership)
2. Technological innovations for development
3. Challenges of migration and urbanization
4. Families and intergenerational support
5. Conflict and identity
6. Economic and trade policies
Its activities include a monthly seminar by researchers and practitioners as well as a fortnightly film series and quarterly bulletin.
