Six top tips for reducing your environmental impact on campus

Staff and students often ask what everyday actions they can take to help contribute to our ambitious carbon reduction target – 20% by 2020.

We’ve put together six top tips so that you can start to contribute today:

1)      Ensure that everything in your office is switched off at the end of the day – including computers, monitors, printers, lights, fans and mobile phone chargers. This is especially important before weekends and closure periods.

2)     Recycle as much as possible – all the waste produced in your office or kitchen can now be recycled, and your spare equipment can be listed on WARP-it.

3)     Think about how you’re getting to, from and around the University. Could you cycle or car share? Could you take a uni-link bus instead of a taxi?

4)     Consider the products that you’re buying – the new Green Label scheme can help point you towards ethically and environmentally sound products.

5)     Report maintenance problems such as dripping taps – saving water is a vital part of our sustainability campaign too.

6)     Stay engaged – attend events, check SUSSED, read the e-Voice, take part in activities and submit your ideas.

By working together, these actions will help us to reduce our environmental impact and cement our place as an innovative, leading University for addressing sustainability. They will also save money, which can be reinvested in our research, education and student experience.
