Dr David Hare Lecture sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Actuaries – Tuesday 20th November at 6pm

From Jacobites to Gigabytes – the changing role of actuaries in serving the public interest.

The development of the first actuarially-based insurance and pension fund in the early 1740s set the scene for much of the actuarial thinking for the next 200 years.  In more recent times, we have seen significant developments in actuarial techniques in response to the increased challenges from product developments, economic developments and regulatory developments.  The softer skills of actuaries have also become more significant as the requirements on business leaders increase and new risk roles develop.  In this talk, David Hare will review these developments concerning actuaries and postulate what it will be like for actuaries working in a Solvency 2 world.
