The University has been awarded £3.2 million of funding under the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) for the period of Oct 2011-Sept 2014.The aim of the fund is to deliver knowledge exchange and realise the impact of research that falls within the remit of EPSRC. The University has been awarded the 5th highest funding award from a total 31 successful institutions.
The fund will be used to support greater collaboration with industry, bridge the gap between the lab and the marketplace, and foster a culture of entrepreneurship, through:
• Knowledge Transfer Secondments (inwards and outwards) with industry. Open to University research staff and researchers from collaborating companies.
• Knowledge Transfer Internships to industry. Open to post graduate researchers towards the end of their studies.
• Acceleration of large scale technology projects to early stage commercial development
Applications for knowledge transfer secondments and knowledge transfer internships are now open. A competition will be launched early December for the large-scale technology development projects.
The University welcomes the IAA as a valuable support to its research and enterprise strategy; not only will it serve to significantly assist staff in engaging in industrial collaboration and commercialisation opportunities but will also further raise the profile of the University as an entrepreneurial institution.
