University staff and students are invited to attend Professor Mandy Fader’s Inaugural Lecture on 28 January.
Drinks will be served at 6pm in Building 67. All are welcome.
From rubber bands and plastic bags to electronic sensors, micro-pumps and valve technology – discreet and reliable containment of bladder and bowel leakage has sorely challenged engineers, clinicians, material scientists and patients.
Unencumbered with the regulatory requirements of drugs, some highly imaginative solutions have been proposed and shown great promise on the bench, mannequin (or baby) but have failed to deliver for the adult human’s variety of shapes, sizes and activities. Nevertheless, improvements have been many and this lecture charts the highs, lows and future developments (the ‘real’ iPad) in continence technology.
Location: Faculty of Health Sciences, Main Lecture Theatre 1027, Nightingale Building 67, Highfield Campus, University of Southampton, Southampton SO17 1BJ.
Times: Drinks from 6pm. Lecture begins at 6.30pm.
