In December, there was a five percent reduction in the amount of electricity used, compared to the average of the two previous years. For the Christmas holidays there was a three percent reduction compared to 2011. This is great news and is down to your efforts to switch off electrical equipment over the festive period. So, a big thank you for helping us save energy and money.
We still need you to keep switching off your PC and other non-essential electrical items when you go home at night, so we can continue to see savings.
It is sobering to realise that even with this reduction, the University still used the same amount of electricity on Christmas Day as 11 houses use in one year.
Please keep sending us your suggestions on ways we can save energy ([email protected]) and add the Southampton Blackout date (26April) to your diary.
Please contact Jodie Barker ([email protected]) or Dr Neil Smith ([email protected]) if you have any questions about energy use.
