Lunchtime seminar – Working with international student sponsors, 12.30pm – 1.30pm, 15 February

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) and the International Office will be running a seminar on working with international student sponsors. The session will be particularly relevant to PhD supervisors.

Overseas governments and employers support international students at all levels of study and at PhD level, this group are reported to be the primary source of funding for around 20% of international students in the UK. For some countries – such as Saudi Arabia and Malaysia – this rises to well over 50%.

Sponsors are key stakeholders and we already invest considerable resource in ensuring that everything possible is done to make the University visible to them and to encourage sponsors to choose Southampton as a destination for their most gifted students. In doing so, we undertake a commitment to ensure that – as far as possible – we meet sponsor demands and expectations in relation to the student experience, value for money and regular communication.

It is communication that the session will focus on in particular; why it is so important that we get it right, the need for cooperation across a number of services and an overview of the measures that the International Office are putting in place to coordinate this process.

 The workshop will be particularly relevant to the following:

 Anyone who is already or may in the future supervise sponsored students;

Anyone involved in writing or compiling student progress reports for sponsored students;

Associate Deans Education;

Associate Deans Research;

Faculty Education Managers;

Administration and Assessment teams;

The seminar will take place on Friday 15 February in 67/1007 Nightingale Building between 12.30 – 1.30pm. Light refreshments will be provided and please feel free to bring your own lunch.

If you would like to attend this seminar, please send an email confirming your name and position to [email protected] no later than 8 February.
