Wednesday 6 February: Lunchtime community choir resumes – new and continuing members welcome

Following successful choir meetings before Christmas, Humanities and Turner Sims will be resuming the community choir in week two of semester two – all members of the University community with any interest in singing are welcome to attend.

NO AUDITION NECESSARY. You don’t have to be able to read music. You don’t have to be a good or experienced singer to take part.

Sessions will take place EVERY WEDNESDAY (excluding Wednesday 27 February), 1.10 – 1.50pm in Turner Sims (Highfield campus) throughout the Spring Term – perfect for a Wednesday lunch break. Please come along to as many as you are able.

We hope to arrange a special community choir performance later in the year – date to be arranged. If you would prefer not to take part in this, you are still very welcome to attend the lunchtime sessions.

Harvey Brough will be running the choir and is a staggeringly versatile musician: a singer, composer, arranger and animateur who has worked successfully in the classical, jazz and pop fields for 30+ years.

You can check out his website at http://www.harveybrough.com

As a recently appointed Turner Sims Professor for 2012/13, he’ll be working with Keith Davis, the University of Southampton’s Head of Vocal Studies, and with Music lecturer Dr Ben Oliver to keep the community choir going.

As recent TV programmes have highlighted, shared experience of singing in a choir can strengthen community spirit and improve personal wellbeing. It’s fun, above all: Harvey will continue to make sure of that.

There’s no need to register in advance. Just turn up.

If you wish to be included on the regular community choir mailing list, please send a message to Victoria Hooper in Music with your preferred email contact details: [email protected].

We look forward to seeing many of you at the first meeting: Wednesday 6 February, 1.10 – 1.50pm in Turner Sims (Highfield Campus).
