You are invited to a discussion with Professor Nigel Shadbolt on; ‘Open Data: What’s The Use?’
Nigel Shadbolt is Professor of Artificial Intelligence, Head of the Web and Internet Science Group at the University of Southampton, and Chairman and co-founder of the UK Open Data Institute. He has a wide range of publications in fields ranging from computational neuroscience to the semantic web. In 2009, he was appointed by the Government to improve access to public sector information, leading to the open data portal: data.gov.uk
Things to be covered include:
• What is open data and what is its potential for scientific research and innovation?
• What are the economic, social and legal considerations for open data and do they matter?
• What will motivate organisations and individuals to make available their data for all to use?
• What are the areas where open data is already making an impact?
