The University of Southampton’s enterprising students have won the Enactus UK national title for the third year in a row.
A group of seven students from the Southampton Enactus team (formerly known as SIFE, Students in Free Enterprise) presented the results of their real-life projects over three intensive rounds. Winning the national championship has earned the Southampton team a return trip to the Enactus World Cup later this year to be held in Cancun, Mexico.
Enactus Southampton was chosen by judges over 40 other universities to win the 2013 national finals after they presented three social projects: Find Your Path, SanEco and Right Futures. These projects aim to have a positive impact on individuals and communities, be it through teaching skills in business, helping rebuild incomes or supporting new businesses.
Enactus is a not-for-profit global organisation that works to mobilise university students to make a difference within their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Guided by university and business advisers, students taking part run real-life projects that create economic opportunity for others.
Established in 2009, the Enactus Southampton team currently involves 147 students from a wide range of courses – from maths to geography and civil engineering. Enactus activities are completely financially independent through their group’s businesses which generate profits.
“We’re thrilled to be the Enactus national champions for the third year in a row and I want to thank everyone involved at the University of Southampton for playing their part in making this possible,” said Charlotte Pearce, President of Enactus Southampton “What makes Enactus Southampton so successful is our focus on business together with the opportunity to improve our community and for us to better ourselves and learn from that experience. We’ll be looking forward to representing the UK and the University in Mexico later this year for the Enactus World Cup!”
