The Right Honourable Lord Deben PC will be giving a lecture ‘Energy and Climate Change: The challenge – how shall we respond?’ at the University on Thursday 9 May from 5pm.
This lecture will look at the future and ask how can we solve the problems posed by changes to the demand and supply of energy? As alternative sources of energy are becoming ever more crucial – how will the UK respond to this challenge and to what extent can research shape the political agenda?
Currently Chairman of the Committee on Climate Change, Lord Deben has had a long and distinguished career in parliament. As John Selwyn Gummer he held various cabinet posts in the Heath, Thatcher and John Major governments before moving to the shadow cabinet during the Blair years. In 2010 he joined the House of Lords as Lord Deben in order to campaign for environmental issues, social justice and for engagement with the European Union – of which he is a strong advocate.
This free lecture is presented by the University’s Multi-disciplinary Energy Group and Institute for Life Sciences in collaboration with the Vitacress Conservation Trust.
Everyone is welcome and there is no charge but please register by calling 023 8059 8975 or at: www.eventbrite.com/event/6203925107/eorg#
