Recruiting students to work at Open Days

It’s that time of year again where it’s time to recruit students to help at this year’s University Open Days!

The dates this year are:

Friday 5 and Saturday 6 July

And Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September

Depending on your role you will either be working from 07:30-4:30 or 08:00-5pm and you can work just one day or all four days!

You will also need to be available to attend training on one of the following dates if you are working the July Open Days.  If working for just the September Open Days you will be invited to a training session in August:

Wednesday 26 June: 12:30-2pm – Lecture Theatre H (2065), Building 2a, Arts Annex.

Or Thursday 27 June: 12:30-2pm – Lecture Theatre H (2065), Building 2a, Arts Annex.

You will be paid for training as long as you then work the open days that you put your name down for.

Rate of pay for training and the open days is £7.17 per hour.  Please note that we are unable to pay any travel costs to and from the University for the training or Open Days.

You will play an important part in presenting the University to potential students and their families.  Each Open Day attracts over 10,000 visitors who all need questions answered and to be pointed in the right direction.  Therefore we need students with good interpersonal and communication skills that are friendly, enthusiastic and helpful.  Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Please feel free to forward this message on to any of your fellow University of Southampton students who you think may also like to work.

Tasks are varied and included:

* Setting up stands and resources
* Providing directions and information at any of the campuses
* Giving tours of Highfield Campus, Avenue Campus, Glen Eyre, Wessex Lane and Highfield Halls of Residence
* Assisting in exhibition areas
* Staffing Information Points
* Assisting at various talks and presentations

You will be provided with lunch and a t-shirt.

If you are an International student you must ensure that you do not work more than 20 hours per week and this includes any external jobs you have so you will need to make sure you are not going to exceed this before applying for this job role.

If you wish to work on any of the dates, please email [email protected].
