All staff and students are invited to a free event this Saturday, celebrating the launch of the latest John Hansard Gallery exhibition. ‘Death and Dumb’ features new film installations by British artist Mel Brimfield that are scattered with influences, from Samuel Beckett to classic British comedy.
Brimfield’s exhibition sets the gallery as a stage, with projection screens standing in for actors engaged in a broken dialogue. The works contrast lascivious humour with romantic fantasy, hope with nihilism, and an acute sense of the tragi-comic. ‘Death and Dumb’ is presented in association with artSOUTH, a major region-wide contemporary art project: www.artsouth.org.uk
The exhibition continues until 2 November 2013.
Private View: Saturday 7 September 6-8pm. Refreshments served. All welcome, free admission.
Exhibition opening times: Tuesday – Friday 11am-5pm / Saturday 11am-4pm.
