Expressions of interest for Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise)

As you may be aware, Professor Phil Nelson will be stepping down as PVC (Research and Enterprise) at the end of the year, following the completion of his tenure in the role and our REF submission.  Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor is now seeking expressions of interest from within the University community for the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise).

Candidates should have sufficient management and leadership experience to be able to contribute effectively as a member of the University Executive Group; and enjoy the confidence of the wider University community to be an effective advocate for our research and enterprise activities internally and externally.

Candidates will need to have a good knowledge of the University Strategy as it is, and the new PVC will have the opportunity to help to re-shape it over the coming months as we refresh our strategy, focusing on distinction, globalisation and growth.

The University continues to distinguish itself through the internationally-benchmarked quality of its research; by tackling some of the most pressing global challenges through multidisciplinary research; and through its continuing national leadership in enterprise. Individual researchers and research teams are improving the quality, reach and impact of their research through networks with partner institutions and businesses across the globe. We continue to be successful in growing our research income from an increasingly broad range of sources, nationally and internationally, and in doing so attract outstanding research students from around the world. The incoming PVC (Research and Enterprise) will need to build on this legacy to meet the ambitions of the University, its staff and students.

Below is a link to the Role Definition and you are also welcome to contact the Vice-Chancellor to arrange an informal discussion, prior to submitting your expression of interest ([email protected]), please note he will be taking annual leave from Friday 20 September.

Role Definition: Pro Vice-Chancellor – Research and Enterprise

Your expression of interest together with an up to date CV should be sent by email to Malcolm Mitchell, Head of Recruitment and Talent Management ([email protected]) by Monday 30 September and interviews will be arranged with the short-listed applicants soon after this closing date.

Please note that this appointment is covered by the statutes and ordinances of the University and is subject to consultation with Senate and approval by the University Council.
