Southampton’s first MOOC unveiled at national launch of FutureLearn

This week saw the much-anticipated launch of FutureLearn, the first UK-based platform for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and also the beginning of the countdown to the University of Southampton’s first ever MOOC in Web Science

The platform launched with an introduction from Martin Bean, the Vice-Chancellor of the Open University, a talk from the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP, and a demonstration of the platform by Simon Nelson,CEO of Future Learn.

We are also able to announce that our Web Science MOOC will start on 11 November, with learners able to enrol now by visiting our course page on the FutureLearn website.

The multidisciplinary course will examine the origins and evolution of the Web and consider key issues such as security, democracy, networks and economy from both computational andsocial science perspectives.
