Student recruitment update

We have had a very successful student recruitment campaign.  This term we are expecting around 25 per cent more undergraduate students to start with us than last year.

This increase is very good news for the University as it brings us back on track to grow our student numbers and reflects the work and professionalism which has gone into our recruitment campaign this year.   We had anticipated that a successful campaign would present challenges. Adam Wheeler, Provost, explains, “Having a larger number of students than anticipated creates a range of complex and inter-related problems which have to be solved quickly with creativity and flexibility before the start of term.”

This mosaic of challenges, under pressures of time and resource, has required a highly focussed and collaborative approach, which has been extremely effective.  Adam said, “I’ve been very impressed by the way people have pulled together across the University.  Professional Services and academic colleagues, together with SUSU, have all worked together to successfully rise to this challenge. We will continue to monitor the situation into the academic year to ensure the solutions are bedded in.  We are delighted that so many well qualified students have chosen to study with us and we will of course do our utmost to ensure that their experience at Southampton exceeds their expectations.  I would like to thank everyone for their work.”
