The University of Southampton
SUSSED News

From 1 November 2013, the phone numbers for Southampton General Hospital (SGH) are changing.

Why is this being done?
University Hospital Southampton (UHS) does not currently own the whole 023 8079 xxxx range. Some staff assume they have a direct dial in number, local companies often receive calls meant for UHS and patients and relatives are confused. UHS are therefore changing this so all extensions will begin 023 8120 xxxx as direct dial.

Who is this going to impact?
• University staff and students who telephone SGH
• Staff who produce marketing and publicity materia (printed and web) which requires a UHS telephone number to be published

What is not going to change?
There will be no change to the tie line (internal line) between SGH and Highfield.

Is the change only one direction (from University to SGH and not vice versa)?
The only changes will be with the UHS telephone system. There will be no changes to the University telephone system and there will be no impact on the University telephone system.

From 1 November 2013 to 31 January 2014 there will be dual-running of the old and new numbers to make the changeover as smooth as possible.

From 1 February 2014, the old direct-dial prefix 023 8079 will become inactive. From 1 February 2014 to 31 March 2014, a recorded message will be attached to the old numbers telling callers of the change and a new number to dial.
