Join us for informative, provocative and stress busting activities next Tuesday, 29 October
Wellbeing Day is a day for the whole University community, staff and students alike. On 29 October there will be a range of talks, workshops and much more, helping us to look after ourselves better – now and for the future. While we’ll be looking at all aspects of wellbeing, there’ll be a particular emphasis on mental health, sometimes described as a ‘non-visible disability’.
Many activities are taking place in the Hartley Lounge, transformed for the day into the Oasis of Calm. The majority will run in half-hour slots, giving you a chance to drop in whenever convenient.
The University Provost Adam Wheeler, opening the hour-long keynote event at 12 noon, will highlight the University’s responsibility as an employer to acknowledge and better understand mental health issues, and note the work planned for the coming year. And at 1pm, service user Helen Cartwright will share her personal perspective. Booking is recommended for these two sessions.
Find out more about all the events in the Hartley Room (including Alfie the Labradoodle).
Located in the Life Sciences Building (85/2213), we will be taking you through the science behind wellbeing in a series of workshops which will highlight important themes across the science and management of wellbeing in organisations such as ours. Booking is strongly advised for these workshops as places are limited.

Back in the Hartley Suite, in the terrace area you will be able to find out first-hand about a range of services and benefits. You can also decide if knitting is the best therapy ever!
Finally, there will be short walks round Highfield Campus in both morning and afternoon including the stream, the Valley Gardens and some of the variety of trees on campus. Meet by the Arlott Room (no booking needed) at either 10.30 or 15.30 for a relaxing and informative 30-minute stroll, led by Malcolm Jenks of our Estates staff.
