Where’s Don? – The Vice-Chancellor’s diary from 25 November

Here is your snap-shot of the Vice-Chancellor’s diary over the next few weeks. We hope this will provide an insight into the working life of the Vice-Chancellor, both in and around the University and representing the institution externally.

Week commencing 25 November

On Monday, Don was in London meeting John Denham MP to discuss plans for our new Business School, and attending the annual lecture of the National Centre for Universities and Business Leadership Council.

After UEG on Tuesday, Don had lunch with the Enactus students who were runners up in the World Championships earlier this year.

On Wednesday he was filmed by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) as part of the project to develop the “BIS Story”. Southampton has been asked to be the HE exemplar for this project.

On Thursday, Don is joining the celebrations to mark the University’s REF submission, before attending the Times Higher Education Awards in London, where Simon Kemp is shortlisted for Most Innovative Teacher of the Year.

Friday sees the six-monthly meeting between the University and the Science Park.

Week commencing 2 December

Don is in Australia for the first part of this week, for meetings related to some of his on-going research collaborations.

He then heads to Hong Kong to represent the University at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Chinese University of Hong Kong over the weekend. He stays on in Hong Kong early into the following week, signing an exchange agreement with the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and hosting an alumni reception.
