Colleagues and students will be aware that UCU, UNISON and Unite have indicated an intention for their members to take strike action on 31 October. This follows ballots in respect of the 2013 pay award. This action will affect university campuses across the UK.
The University will endeavour to maintain the excellent education and experience it provides to its students. To help minimise the impact we have provided the following guidance:
Will the University be open on 31 October?
Yes, though it is inevitable that there will be some disruptions to teaching and services.
Should students still come to lectures and seminars?
Yes, it is expected that students will come to University as normal. If known in advance, changes to teaching timetables will be communicated to you via email from your faculty. If there are last minute changes on the day, guidance will be provided locally from your faculty’s Student Office.
Will all the University Libraries be open?
Avenue Campus Library and Winchester School of Art Library will both be CLOSED on Thursday. All other Libraries will be open. Please see Library News for information.
Will the catering outlets be affected?
All University catering will continue as normal apart from five outlets on the Highfield campus which will be CLOSED on Thursday:
Piazza
Life Sciences Café (B85)
Harley Library Café
Bus Interchange
‘Food on the Go’
Will the Early Years Centre be open?
Yes. The centre will be operating as normal.
Are Uni Link buses affected?
This service should be operating as normal.
All sites will have been health and safety assessed to ensure that they can remain open. But please note that there will be reduced staff levels on all University sites, so we would ask everyone to be vigilant for their health, safety and security.
Please ensure that you check Sussed for further updates.
