University achieves 60 per cent recycling target

In 2012/13 the University recycled 61 per cent of its waste. This compares to a recycling rate of 45.7 per cent  in 2011/12. The target was to recycle at least 60 per cent of waste by July 2013.

Achieving this target is a tremendous achievement and thank you to you all for helping us recycle.

We know we can do even better; the recycling rate for July 2013 was 76 per cent . The two bin scheme has been the key to the success – either waste is food, which is sent for anaerobic digestion, or it is mixed recyclables, which are sent for sorting into separate materials for processing into new products. Any residual general waste that cannot be recycled is sent for incineration with energy recovery.

Thank you again for helping us recycle.
