Academic staff contracts

During the last few months the University has been undertaking work to update and rationalise contracts for academic staff.

UCU recently contacted members for feedback on possible changes to these new contracts of employment. This was an action following an urgent Joint Negotiating Committee meeting in September.

The University and UCU had a further frank and productive discussion on this issue at recent meetings of the Joint Campus Trades Union Joint Negotiating Committee and the UCU Joint Negotiating Committee. This discussion will continue at the next meeting in November.

The University intends to work collaboratively with UCU to ensure any revisions to contracts of employment for new academic appointments are appropriate, reflect legislation, provide staff with good terms and conditions of service and support the University’s efforts in research and education.

The University wishes to reassure academic staff that, following these discussions, reference to core hours of work will not be reflected in new contracts and any overseas working policies will be developed in consultation with UCU, the recognised negotiating body for academic staff.
