Students – stay safe: do you know about all of the safe ways to get home?

Your safety and wellbeing is really important to the University, and we want to make sure you have a great student experience. So, now that we are a few weeks into the new academic year, it is a good time to remind you of some of the things you can do to make sure you stay safe.

Even though Southampton is a safe city, it is important to make sure that you and your possessions are protected as much as possible.   Did you know that of out of all the student related burglaries reported to local police this term, 100 per cent were because doors and windows were not locked!

Please make sure you watch the student safety video.

There are also lots of important tips on staying safe from SUSU on their advice pages.

If you’re travelling home from Uni late at night, please remember to take advantage of the Safety Bus home from The Union. It runs every night from 8pm and will take you to your door . WSA students – this includes taking you all the way back to Winchester!

If you are travelling elsewhere in the city, walk in groups or take a taxi. Remember, even if you are out of cash, SUSU have arranged for you to ‘ride now, pay later’ with the Student Taxi Scheme .  We also encourage you to have a look in the SUSU shop for a wide range of items such as high visibility cycle clips, laptop locks to personal alarms.

If you need to report anything suspicious to the police, phone 101 (if it’s not an emergency) or phone 999 in an emergency. You can also contact University Security if you’re worried about something on campus: 023 8059 2811. There are a number of University services that can offer immediate support and assistance, including our First Support team who can offer substantial practical assistance and professional support.
