This half-day symposium explores the themes and context of Anti-Academy, a new John Hansard Gallery exhibition that examines the ideas, processes, workshops and legacies of three radical art educational models in 1960s Japan (Bigakko, Tokyo), the USA (The Intermedia Programme, University of Iowa) and Denmark (Ex-School, Copenhagen).
Schedule:
12.30pm – 1.30pm: Registration at the John Hansard Gallery, lunch and opportunity to view exhibition. Delegates transfer to the Murray Building Lecture Theatre, University of Southampton (located behind the John Hansard Gallery)
1.30pm: Introduction by Alice Maude-Roxby
1.45pm – 3pm: Presentations by Tania Ørum, Yoshiko Shimada, Cornelia Schmidt-Bleek
3pm – 3.30pm: Q and A, chaired by Sunil Manghani
3.30pm – 4pm: Refreshments 4pm: John Reardon and Verina Gfader
4.30pm: Dean Kenning
5pm: Panel with Q and A chaired by Joan Giroux
6pm: Reception at John Hansard Gallery and Anti-Academy Exhibition Opening until 8pm
