The temperature is now beginning to drop as we approach winter. All staff are reminded that in the event that serious adverse weather affects our normal operations, our procedures can be found in the Crisis Planning folder on the University Executive Group SharePoint site here: https://sharepoint.soton.ac.uk/sites/ueg_updates/adverse_weather_planning/Forms/AllItems.aspx
In summary‚ the normal expectation is that the University campuses will remain open. If the weather is so severe that it is unsafe to continue activities‚ the Crisis Management Committee will make decisions to close on a campus by campus basis.
If this were to happen then information will be communicated to staff as quickly as possible through various channels – text messages, emails to all staff‚ notices on the University website‚ automated messages on the University switchboard (023 8059 5000), social media feeds and announcements on local radio.
Keeping in touch
About 80 per cent of colleagues across the University have now provided their mobile phone numbers for contact in case of emergency. We’d like to improve on this, as that still means a thousand people who we can’t contact through this route.
Have you changed your mobile number recently? Have you checked that your contact details are up-to-date on MyView? Please check your MyView account as soon as possible and certainly before the end of the calendar year, so that we can keep you informed if there’s an emergency.
