The Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) is an annual survey sent to all graduates six months after the completion of their course. The survey collects data on what our graduates are doing; whether that is employment, further study, travel or job seeking. Detailed information is collected on a graduate’s employing organisation, its location and even starting salary. Every UK University is legally required by the government to conduct this survey on behalf of The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and we must achieve an institutional response rate of 80%, collected from recent graduates via an email, postal and telephone campaign.
The DLHE survey is critical to us as an institution, because the data collected from graduates is the only publically available measure of employability and is used in determining our performance in university league tables which prospective students and their parents turn to when considering the University of Southampton. The information we gain from the survey also informs our careers support offer to students and graduates, as well as the marketing and review of our courses.
Please help to raise awareness of DLHE by encouraging students to complete the survey after their studies as part of ensuring as much information as possible is gleaned from our recent graduates. It is important that students are requested to keep their contact details up to date, to enable Career Destinations, who administer the survey, to reach them during the survey period. The outreach period runs annually from November to March for the July graduating class and from May to June for the December graduating class.
DLHE survey results are available for all staff to access annually in July via Qlikview, the specialised interactive software package which can be accessed through the Services tab of SUSSED. Survey results are broken down both as an institution and by programme of study. For further information and support with promoting DLHE locally and using Qlikview, please contact Career Destinations at [email protected].
