Guidance Regarding Proposed Strike Action On Tuesday, 3 December.

The University has been notified by the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) that UCU, UNISON and UNITE are intending to take further industrial action in support of the national 2013 pay award dispute. This will take the form of a day of joint strike action on Tuesday, 3 December, 2013, by members of all three unions.   This follows ballots in respect of the 2013 pay award and this action will potentially affect university campuses across the UK.

The University will endeavour to maintain the excellent education and experience it provides to its students.  To help minimise the impact we have provided the following guidance:

Will the University be open on 3 December?

Yes, though it is inevitable that there will be some disruptions to teaching and services.

Should students still come to lectures and seminars?

Yes, it is expected that students will come to University as normal. If known in advance, changes to teaching timetables will be communicated to you via email from your faculty. If there are last minute changes on the day, guidance will be provided locally from your faculty’s Student Office.

Will all the University Libraries be open?

Avenue Campus Library will be CLOSED on 3 December.  The  Languages  Resources Centre at Avenue will be open, but with restricted hours.  All other Libraries will be open, although services may be reduced. Please see Library News for information.

Will the catering outlets be affected?

University catering will continue as normal apart from the outlets on the Highfield campus, listed below, which will be CLOSED on 3 December:

  • Piazza
  • Life Sciences Café (B85)
  • Hartley Library Café
  • Bus Interchange
  • ‘Healthy Options’ in the Staff Club

There may also be disruptions to delivered catering.

Will the Early Years Centre be open?

Yes. The Centre will be operating as normal.

Are Uni Link buses affected?

This service should be operating as normal

What About Other Campus Facilities?

All sites will have been health and safety assessed to ensure that they can remain open. But please note that there will be reduced staff levels on all University sites, so we would ask everyone to be vigilant for their health, safety and security.

Please ensure that you check SUSSED for further updates.
