The University has been awarded the EcoCampus Gold award following an audit in early January.
What is EcoCampus?
EcoCampus is the University’s Environmental Management System (EMS) that allows us to systematically manage our activities to minimise our impact on the environment. It is split into four stages; the last stage Platinum being the equivalent of the international standard, ISO14001.
What does EcoCampus mean for you?
All staff and students have a responsibility to minimise the impact of their activities on the environment and so all contribute to the EMS. This involves for example, switching off non-essential electrical equipment and using the recycling facilities. Some activities can potentially have more of an impact than others, such as the use and disposal of chemicals, and so audits involve checking to ensure staff are effectively managing these according to the agreed systems and processes.
What happens next?
We will continue to implement the EMS and check the policies and procedures are working effectively to manage environmental risk with a view to submit for the Platinum Award later this year.
Where can I find out more?
