You are invited to an Inaugural Lecture at the Southampton General Hospital

Professor Nick Curzen is giving a lecture on“Pipes, Pictures, Platelets & Pressure Wires: The Fascinating World of Interventional Cardiology”.

Location: Lecture Theatre 2, South Academic Block, Southampton General Hospital

Details: Tea and coffee from 4.45pm, lecture followed by wine and canapés

Speaker: Nick Curzen, BM (Hons), PhD, FRCP, Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Interventional Cardiology.  Nick Curzen is  Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in coronary & aortic valve intervention at UHS and Professor of Interventional Cardiology at Southampton University. He qualified from Southampton University Medical School with Honours in 1987 and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1990. In 1996 he was awarded a PhD in vascular biology from Imperial College, London. Nick was consultant cardiologist with a special interest in coronary intervention at Manchester Royal Infirmary from 1999-2003. He moved to UHS in January 2004. In the recent past Nick has been national expert adviser on STEMI to the Prime Minister’s Directive Unit and to the NICE appraisals of 2 antiplatelet drugs as well as pressure wires. He is currently Honorary Secretary of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS), having previously been its Education Officer and wrote the UK curriculum for subspecialty training in interventional cardiology.  As clinical lead for the Coronary Research Group he has an active interest in research and has published over 140 peer review articles, 25 book chapters and has edited 3 cardiology books, including the Oxford Textbook of Interventional Cardiology.
