You are invited to the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering, Three Minute Thesis Final

On Wednesday 12 March 2014, 12 Postgraduate Researchers in the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering (FPSE) will compete to explain their research projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes, using only a single static Powerpoint slide, as they take on the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) challenge.

The 3MT is a concept developed by the University of Queensland and one which has been adopted internationally. This is the first year that a contest has been held at Southampton and entries have been sought from postgraduate researchers in all disciplines to compete in local heats hosted by the Faculties and Academic Units across the University.

The FPSE 3MT Final on  12 March will see one winner receive a £200 cash prize and go forward to the University competition where the three prizes on offer are bursaries of £1000 (1st Prize) and £500 (Runner Up Prize and People’s Choice Prize) to support the successful entrants’ research.

The event promises a unique opportunity to hear a range of compelling orations as the competitors seek to master communicating the essence and significance of their research with limited time and resources.
