Achieving more for less? How a fresh pair of eyes can make all the difference

For more than ten years, companies of all kinds from Barclaycard to the NHS have tapped into the expertise of talented postgraduates studying Management Sciences, Operational Research and Business Analytics. The masters students have brought fresh pairs of eyes to challenging projects and many of the organisations have seized the opportunity to recruit them.

Now, more than ever, businesses need to make better products and deliver better customer service more efficiently and with less resource. Insight from the outside world can often make a difference.

The team behind the successful projects are holding an afternoon event on 10 March to showcase how the MSc students can contribute their expertise to public, private and third sector organisations.

Industrial Liaison Officer, Dr Ian Rowley says: “These projects deliver real business benefits. Over the years they have included cutting the cost of high volume engine production, matching call centre staffing to better meet demand, setting prices to maximise revenue, supporting home versus abroad sourcing strategies, reducing spare part stock holding while maintaining service, improving the flow of patients through A&E, optimising the allocation of service vehicles to breakdowns, reducing the costs of distribution and many more.”

During the event, business people will explain how projects have benefited them and academic staff will talk about potential opportunities. Companies and organisations of all kinds are invited to attend.
