The Solent’s underwater history revealed to visitors at 28 February open day

At the next University open day young people will not only be able to find out about the University’s established archaeology undergraduate degrees but see what types of work they could be doing after their course.

The Maritime Archaeology Trust will be bringing their unique public outreach vehicle to Avenue Campus to explain to visitors what being an archaeologist is really like. Students on the University’s MA/MSc in Maritime Archaeology and PhD courses will be on hand to answer questions about becoming an archaeologist and study beyond undergraduate level and working in the maritime field.

The charity’s mobile museum and laboratory will also demonstrate that the research and artefact discoveries in archaeology are just the start. It is how research is disseminated and shared with the public that could render it the next big discovery.  By bringing the bus, the charity hopes to demonstrate that outreach is other important aspect of this growing career path.

Furthermore, it will offer a great sense of fun for visitors. Adults can learn about the Solent’s shipwrecks whilst children can get involved in the many heritage activities.
