The University will be using a background monitoring system (SUMMs) to ensure that all Tier 4 visa students are complying with the rules set by United Kingdom Visas & Immigration (UKVI, formally UKBA). This system has the full support of the University and the Student Union.
SUMMs will monitor attendance on campus, and will involve eligible Tier 4 visa students using specific systems on a regular basis to remain active and thus protect their immigration status in the UK.
Tier 4 Visa students need to use these systems on a regular basis to avoid problems with their visas:
- Blackboard
- Eduroam Wireless system
- Any University PC
- Access to any of the door entry points across the University
- PGR Tracker (Postgraduate students)
- E-Assignment
If any emails regarding attendance are received, students should log onto these systems as soon as possible.
Another web-based system is being developed for Tier 4 visa students on remote study.
It is very important that Tier 4 Visa students participate in this system, as it will make their time at the University much easier and will reduce problems surrounding attendance. If they do not log into these systems on a regular basis, they are risking their Tier 4 sponsorship status, as UKVI needs all Universities to prove that students have been attending their studies.
