Update on proposed industrial action

The Universities and Colleges’ Employers Association (UCEA) met last week with the HE Trade Unions at national level to progress the current pay negotiations and endeavour to draw the current industrial dispute to a close.

This resulted in the offer of a two per cent pay increase from UCEA for 2014/15. Further details can be found here.

The Trade Unions are now considering the employers’ offer. UCU is undertaking a consultative ballot with its members and, as a result, has postponed the possible start of the proposed marking boycott to Tuesday 6 May, so that the members’ views can be fully considered on whether the action should go ahead.

The University is pleased with this latest news and hopes that it offers a positive outcome for both students and staff.

The University’s prime concern is to ensure that its students are not adversely affected by the proposed marking boycott. We will continue to work closely with SUSU and colleagues throughout the University to put in place the arrangements necessary to ensure that should industrial action go ahead, our students will not be disadvantaged.

Students should continue to study as normal for their exams and assessments

Further information will follow as soon as it becomes available.
