Assessment at Southampton Communications SharePoint site available for University staff

Do you work at the University? Find out more about the changes being implemented for academic year 2014/15 by the Assessment at Southampton Project and how they may impact your role.

The Assessment at Southampton Project was formed with the vision to provide a more efficient and robust service to our students; to enhance the proficiency of our current assessment process, benefiting our SAA and academic colleagues. The project is implementing a number of new, and/or modified systems which will assist in improving our assessment processes and enhancing the experience of our students. You can find out more about these changes and how they may affect your role at the University by requesting membership to the dedicated Assessment at Southampton Communications SharePoint site.

Log on to https://groupsite.soton.ac.uk and search for Assessment at Southampton Communications, and select ‘Request membership’ on the right hand side of your screen. The enhancements the project will be implementing include: Banner Gradebook – a newly developed area within the existing Banner system which enables the user to enter student marks at a component level, assign late penalties and extensions, view module and component information and view information about the students assigned to the module. eAssignment is one of the University’s electronic assignment handling systems, used for submission of student assignments, online entry of marks, return of provisional marks and feedback to students.

The key change made to eAssignment is the automatic transfer of marks to Banner. Student Records System (Banner) Self Service forms part of Banner which is accessible to you and our students to enable the review of marks, student information and module and programme information.

Developments have taken place to improve this page to enable you to view enhanced information including component marks, final module marks and detailed module data. Qlikview is software that allows the analysis of data using charts and statistics. Using information from Banner, you will be able to view statistical information about student performance on modules and trends over time. Awards and Progression developments have taken place within Banner to improve practices within the processes linked to Awards and Progression, including enhancements to the Assessment Grid used for exam boards.
