This month marks 100 years since the opening of the first “new” buildings at Highfield Campus.
It’s also 100 years since we first started using the name of “Southampton” in our title, becoming University College of Southampton. A grand opening was held on 20 June 1914, with the Lord Chancellor, Lord Haldane, as guest of honour.
Six weeks later World War 1 broke out and we offered the Highfield campus to be used as a war hospital.
