The Operational Excellence office – improving our processes

The Operational Excellence team are leading work to make the University’s processes more efficient, with the aim of reducing bureaucracy, freeing-up time and making it easier for you to access the services that you rely on.

Central to this are the process improvement workshops (sometimes called ‘Processfix workshops’) that have been taking place across the organisation – led by the Operational Excellence team and supported by more than 20 volunteer facilitators.

With external pressure for universities to be more efficient, increased complexity in our processes and growing student numbers, the programme is giving teams the space to review and improve their work and to adapt as the organisation changes.

In the last couple of months, workshops have improved processes as diverse as postgraduate admissions, website maintenance and the payment of casual staff.

New members of the Operational Excellence team have been recruited internally, and they are based in 37/4007. The team have an open door policy, so if you would like to suggest a process for review, or simply discuss the aims of the work, pay them a visit.

The programme’s Groupsite can be accessed here. You can also email the team at [email protected] and follow the office on Twitter, where they are posting information from around the University and best practice from across the sector.
